2005 Research Highlights
  • There were nine new protocols opened during 2005. This included two breast protocols, two osteoporosis prevention trials (one for breast and one for prostate), one ovarian protocol, one GIST protocol, one pancreas protocol, one esophagus protocol, and one drug company study for metastatic renal cell cancer
  • Twelve local patients were enrolled in various clinical trials
  • Twenty protocols are open for enrollment
  • Twenty-three patients, who have finished their participation in clinical trials, are being followed for disease-free survival and overall survival

Rice Memorial Hospital participates in the oncology research process through affiliation with Mayo Clinic and the North Central Cancer Treatment Group, the Clinical Trials Support Unit, and other research organizations, all of which are sponsored by the National Cancer Institute for treating, preventing and managing cancer-related symptoms
