The Cancer Committee continued to meet quarterly during 2007.

One major focus during this year was our program review by the American College of Surgeons survey program. The survey occurred July 25th. The process went smoothly and resulted in our receiving a full three-year approval with several areas of commendation.

For the last couple of years discussions have continued regarding a comprehensive cancer center on the Rice Hospital campus. These meetings resulted in a joint venture between Rice Memorial and Affiliated Community Medical Centers. All cancer services should be operational on the Rice campus by summer of 2008 when remodeling and operational planning are completed.

The many components of the cancer program continue to perform well, and a good deal of increased activity is anticipated as we “go live” with the new cancer center.
