Program Description
The Summer Intern Program is an opportunity for nursing students (BSN, BAN), between their junior and senior years, to participate in a learning and work experience to provide the connection between education and real life practice.
Under the direction of a preceptor, interns further their understanding of the practice of professional nursing. Opportunities are available in a variety of areas at Rice including:
- Adult Health Care
- Ambulatory Care
- ICCU
- Surgical Services
- Women and Children’s Care (includes OB)
In addition, students have the opportunity to observe in other areas.
Summer Intern Job Description
Eligibility
Interns must:
- Have completed their junior year in a baccalaureate nursing program;
- Have at least a 3.0 GPA in their nursing courses; and
- Be enrolled in a summer internship course through a participating Minnesota college or university.
Program Dates
Completed application packets must be received by December 15, 2007. Incomplete packets will not be reviewed.
Interview dates are Thursday, January 3 and Friday, January 4, 2008. Selected applicants must be able to interview in person.
The program starts on Monday, June 2 and ends on Friday, August 10, 2008.
Hours
Interns will be scheduled between 64 and 72 hours per two week pay period. Interns will work the same hours as their preceptor, including rotating shifts and weekends.
