School of Radiologic Technology

The School of Radiologic Technology is a 24 month program. It combines didactic and clinical experiences in radiographic and fluoroscopic examinations with exposure to special procedures, nuclear medicine, CT, MRI, and ultrasound to prepare students for the responsibilities of a radiologic technologist in a hospital or clinical setting.

What is a Radiologic Technologist?

The Radiologic Technologist (RT) plays an important role on the medical team as a technical assistant to the radiologist, a physician who has specialized in the use of x-rays for diagnosis and treatment. A registered technologist is qualified to work in hospitals, doctor's offices, public health projects, industrial medical clinics, veteran's and military hospitals.

As an RT, you will find a wide market for your professional skills. Opportunities for employment are available throughout the country. With the expansion of hospitals and clinics, the demand for qualified RTs remains high.

Education

Your formal education will include courses at Rice Memorial Hospital and Ridgewater College in anatomy, physiology, physics, medical terminology, professional ethics, computers and radiation equipment and protection. Under qualified supervision you will also receive clinical experience with sick and injured patients.

Admission

Candidates for admission must be high school graduates or have their GED. The field is open to both men and women. Experience has shown that high school or college mathematics and science course, especially physics, chemistry and biology, are helpful in preparation for a career as an RT.

At Rice Memorial Hospital, class for new students begin on or about August 15 of each year. The application deadline is November 30 for the class beginning the following August. Six students per year are accepted into the program.
