School of Radiologic Technology

The School of Radiologic Technology consists of a 24-month program combining didactic coursework
and clinical training in General Radiography and Computed Tomography (CT). Also included is exposure
to Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, and Radiation Therapy, ensuring
students of a well-rounded education in the field of radiologic technology.

 

What is a Radiologic Technologist?

The Radiologic Technologist plays an important role on the healthcare team as an aide to the Radiologist (a physician who has specialized in the use of x-ray for diagnosis and treatment) or in various setttings that require radiographic intervention.

As an RT(R), you will find a wide market for your professional skills. Opportunities for employment are available throughout the country, from clinics and hospitals, to imaging centers and mobile services; this is a profession that gives you many options of employment to tailor to your personal preference.

As a Radiologic Technologist, some of your duties include:

  • adjustment of x-ray equipment to the correct settings and positioning for specific examinations
  • proper positioning of patients for appropriate imaging
  • proper selection of exposure technique for a quality radiograph
  • processing knowledge in darkroom (wet processing) and digital image production

 

Mission Statement

The mission of the School of Radiologic Technology is to graduate students with entry level employment knowledge and skills required of a Radiologic Technologist, RT(R).

In some cases you may be called upon to use mobile equipment in an Emergency Room, in Surgery, or at a patient's bedside. In addition, you would be responsible for the mental and physical comfort of your patients while they are in your care, including proper use of radiation protection for all involved persons.

As a Registered Technologist (RT), you will have the social prestige that accompanies a professional career. As a member of the healthcare team, your professional colleagues will be nurses, technicians, physicians and other allied health professionals dedicated to medicine.

Most importantly, you will be using your knowledge and skills to care for those in need, and your work will be an important contribution to your community, wherever you go.

Health Requirements

On acceptance into the program, you will be required to complete a pre-placement health questionaire. At the discretion of the school, you may need a follow-up physical examination at no cost to you. Final acceptance into the program is contingent upon passing the physical examination.

Program Goals
