By Anne Polta, West Central Tribune, Friday, July 12, 2013 —WILLMAR — Pillows — lots of them — play a starring role in a new video by Rice Memorial Hospital about the hospital’s efforts to reduce preventable readmissions.

The message: For every night patients can spend at home in their own bed, it’s one less night with a hospital pillow. For the past two years, Rice has been part of a Minnesota Hospital Association collaborative project known as RARE, or Reducing Avoidable Readmission Events, aimed at lowering the rate at which patients end up back in the hospital after going home.

Consumer Reports recently rated 2,463 U.S. hospitals on a five-point scale from ”Better to Worse” to determine which ones received the highest ratings for safety and quality. Ratings were based on data for infections, readmissions, complications, adverse events, and more. According to the report, Rice was among 14 Minnesota hospitals that received the highest rating.

Rice Hospice will be offering a six-week Healing Hearts Support Group for individuals who have experienced a loss. This group will be held in the Hospice Conference Room at Rice Memorial Hospital from 3:00pm to 4:00pm. The support group begins on Monday, September 9 and will meet September 16, 23, 30 and October 7 and 14.
