Thursday, May 23 – COSMOS – Rice Regional Dental Clinic was honored by Heartland Community Action Agency (Heartland) with a “Partners In Hope” Award.
Each year Heartland staff identifies and honors 2-4 partnering businesses and/or individuals who have exhibited an enthusiastic contribution to the extent of supporting individuals, strengthening families and building community.
Rice Regional Dental Clinic was recognized for its contributions to the underserved populations in our region. The vast majority of clients at the dental clinic are on public programs such as Medical Assistance or MinnesotaCare and have difficulty finding any other dentist who will see them. Its annual “Give Kids a Smile” event served 80 children on February 1, with some coming as far as 50 miles away for free dental services.
A partnership of the University of Minnesota, the Rice Regional Dental Clinic serves 17 counties and is believed to be the only hospital-based dental training site in the United States. Since its opening in 2007, patient volume has far exceeded anticipations, running at nearly 100 percent capacity.
