Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehab

When you have heart disease, breaking old habits and learning new ones can be stressful. Wondering about your future health can be stressful, too. Having the support of family and friends, as well as health care providers, can make a big difference in how you adjust to these changes. Cardiovascular rehabilitation (cardiac rehab) can reduce your symptoms and chances of having more heart problems.

To get started, simply ask your doctor for a program referral, or ask us to help you get one. We can also help you get a graded exercise test if you don't already have a current one. The test is used to create a special exercise plan that is tailored exactly to your fitness needs.

What is Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Rehab?cardiac staff

Exercise, education, and support are the three mainstays of every Rice Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab program.

In addition to an individualized exercise plan, you have access to education and support sessions that address many topics, including:

  • Cardiovascular function and recovery process
  • Lipid (cholesterol) management
  • Smoking cessation
  • Nutrition and weight control
  • Medications
  • Stress management and relaxation
  • Sexuality and family concerns
  • Vocational concerns
  • Individual exercise choices

Registered nurses and/or an exercise physiologist are present when you exercise. They are coronary trained and ACLS certified.

Our Cardiac Rehab staff have been specially trained in Cardiac and Vascular Rehab at state-of-the-art educational facilities. They have access to ongoing educational programs from the State Cardiac Rehabilitation Association and the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.
