Rice Rehabilitation Center Adaptive Equipment Assessment |
What is Occupational Therapy? Occupational therapy uses functional activities to help people be as independent as possible in daily life. Occupational therapists evaluate and treat concerns that relate to your ability to function at home, at play, and at work. Who can benefit from Occupational Therapy? Occupational therapists can help all ages, from infants to older adults. They may focus on developmental, cognitive, physical, or psychological needs. You may benefit from occupational therapy if you have challenges and concerns with eyesight, your hands, or thinking and problem solving. Perhaps you've had a stroke, or been diagnosed with Parkinson's or another neurological disorder. Occupational therapists do driving evaluations, work site evaluations, job placement assessments, lymphedema therapy, home safety and daily living skills evaluations, and provide ergonomic solutions. Where do Occupational Therapists work? Occupational therapists see individuals in hospital settings, outpatient clinical settings, schools, homes, nursing homes, and within the community. There are times when the therapist can make the best evaluation when they're observing the individual at work, school, or performing daily activities at home.
