What is Physical Therapy?

Physical therapy uses a variety of treatment programs to help people improve the quality of their life through chronic pain management, exercise programs and body mechanics education.

Physical therapists evaluate and treat concerns that relate to your ability to use and strengthen muscles and mobility to the best of your ability.

They help you find relief from chronic pain in your joints, back, arms, legs, and other areas.

Who can benefit from Physical Therapy?

Physical therapists can help all ages, from children to older adults. They may focus on developmental, cognitive, physical, or psychological needs.

You may benefit from physical therapy if you have challenges and concerns with body mechanics, chronic pain, or muscle strength.

Perhaps you've had a stroke, or been diagnosed with Parkinson's or another neurological disorder.

Some of the ways physical therapy can help you:

  • Warm water pool therapy
  • Exercise therapy
  • Urinary Incontinence therapy
  • Biofeedback
  • Education in body mechanics
  • Vestibular rehabilitation
  • Balance training and falls prevention
  • Ultrasound therapy.

Where do Physical Therapists work?

Physical therapists see individuals in hospital settings, outpatient clinical settings, schools, homes, nursing homes, and within the community.
