What is Speech Therapy? Speech Therapy is part of a treatment plan for many illnesses and is used to manage conditions where speech, language, eating or swallowing is affected. Speech therapists evaluate and treat concerns that relate to your ability to use language and voice to communicate. They also conduct swallow evaluations to determine safety-appropriate food and liquid consistency for people with swallowing problems. Who can benefit from Speech Therapy? Speech therapists can help all ages, from children to older adults. They may focus on developmental, cognitive, physical, or psychological needs. You or a family member may benefit from speech therapy if there are challenges and concerns with communication and swallowing concerns, such as:
