Vestibular Rehabilitation Program

Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) is a condition in which crystals in the inner ear become dislodged and float into the ear canals, causing an abnormal signal to fire when a person changes head position.

What are the symptoms of BPPV?

For people with BPPV, the following symptoms are often common with positional changes such as rolling over in bed, and getting out of bed. The symptoms usually occur in the morning or evening, and are less prevalent during the day.

  • Imbalance
  • Difficulty walking
  • Lightheadedness
  • Sensation that the room is spinning
  • Sense of tilt
  • Feeling of floating
  • History of falls

Treatment for BPPV

Treatment focuses on realigning the crystals by asking the patient to move into certain positions, and through balance training.

Improvement in symptoms can occur within one to five treatment sessions.
