Willmar Ambulance Service

Willmar Ambulance Service provides multiple levels of care and transportation, including Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) to an average of 1,700 patient contacts every year.

With 8 nationally registered paramedics, 24 Emergency Medical Technicians, all trained in Advanced Life Support and IV Therapy, 5 ambulances and 3 sprint cars, the pre-hospital care and medical transportation they provide is second to none.

Other Services

In addition to the traditional ambulance services, the Willmar Ambulance Service is constantly striving to meet the needs of the community in new and innovative ways.

The Paramedic Bronco

The Paramedic Bronco is used as a "Sprint Car". In the Sprint Care Method, the Broncos stay with the Paramedics on duty the entire time they are on call. We staff two Paramedics 24 hours a day, seven days a week. What the "Sprint Car" method allows us to do is provide our patients with the most advanced care possible, as fast as possible. The Broncos are stocked with oxygen, first aide supplies, ET tubes and other airway supplies as well as medications. The Paramedics use these vehicles to meet area ambulance services whose patients may need medications, or other advanced pre-hospital treatments.

The Bike Patrol

The Bike Patrol is used for a number of events such as the Sonshine Music Festival and the Willmar Fest Parade. We patrol the streets of Willmar acting as first responders for the Ambulance.

The Disaster Trailer

The Disaster Trailer is used as a communication and supply center for medical/emergency personnel. We use the Disaster Trailer each year at the Sonshine Music Festival as well as Revy's Rally. In the event of a large disaster within the state our ambulance service may be called upon to provide staff and equipment to support the emergency personnel already on the scene

The Sonshine First Aide Tent

Each year we provide first aide care at the Sonshine Music Festival.

On average we treat more than 500 people during the three days of the festival for ailments ranging from blisters and sun burn to dehydration,
heat strokes, neck/back injuries and heart attacks.

Specialized Tactical Assistance Team

The Specialized Tactical Assistance Team (S.T.A.T.) is a medical unit that is dispatched with the Kandiyohi County Critical Incident Response Team and the Willmar S.W.A.T. Team when "High Risk" warrants are served. The purpose of the unit is to provide medical care to the
officer(s) or suspect(s) if they sustain an injury.

Bicycle Helmet Safety Program

The purpose of the Bicycle Helmet Safety Program is to inform the public of the dangers of riding bicycles without helmets, to give our children the tools to make wise decisions, to reward children for good driving habits and to ensure that all children in Kandiyohi County have the technology to protect them from serious injury. Our goal for the 2001 is to distribute two thousand bicycle helmets to children throughout Kandiyohi County.
