Is Cardiac Rehab right for you?
The following Cardiac Rehab services were developed by Rice Memorial Hospital to fulfill a community need for ongoing exercise programs under the benefits of medical supervision. Our Cardiac Rehab programs are designed to help people with cardiovascular disease recover faster so that they can lead full and productive lives. We also offer self-pay exercise classes at our Cardiac Rehab Center and through a collaboration with the Kandiyohi County Area Family YMCA, located in Willmar.

What is Cardiac Rehab?

Exercise, education, and support are the three mainstays of every Rice Cardiac Rehab program.

In addition to an individualized exercise plan, you have access to education and support sessions that address many topics, including:

  • Cardiovascular function and recovery process
  • Lipid (cholesterol) management
  • Smoking cessation
  • Nutrition and weight control
  • Medications
  • Stress management and relaxation
  • Sexuality and family concerns
  • Vocational concerns
  • Individual exercise choices

Registered nurses and/or an exercise physiologist are present when you exercise. They are coronary trained and ACLS certified. Our Cardiac Rehab staff have been specially trained in Cardiac and Vascular Rehab at state-of-the-art educational facilities. They have access to ongoing educational programs from the State Cardiac Rehabilitation Association and the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.

Each Cardiac Rehab program has guidelines that match you to the program that best meets your current needs.

"Our Cardiac Rehab team can help you reduce stress and feel better. We'll write an exercise prescription just for you - one that challenges you as you get stronger and feel ready to take it up a notch."
--Kellie Prentice, RN, Clinical Coordinator

Did you know? People who've had heart attacks or coronary bypass surgery, and then complete a Cardiac Rehab program, live longer and better lives than those who don't.

Is your heart getting the care it needs and deserves to keep it ticking?

What do participants say about Cardiac Rehab programs?
"They're just a great bunch - so good natured and pleasant. I feel safe here. They take my blood pressure and they know my medical conditions. They encourage me and if I don't show up, they notice! Randy helped me figure out a four-month program that challenges me when I'm ready. It's like having your own personal trainer. I like the accountability. I like the other people who come here - we joke and laugh a lot. My arthritis doesn't bother me as much anymore. For me, this program works great and I look forward to going!" --Jan Frisch, Willmar "The staff are interested in you and in providing you with the best exercise fit. They're there for you and someone always comes around to check how you're doing - I like the extra medical attention. They helped me learn how to use the equipment and gave me confidence to use the machines. I also like the camaraderie with the other people - they talk to each other. It's an easy, non-threatening environment. The hours are convenient and once I get going, I always feel so good for having exercised." --Markeen S.
