| Laboratory Services for Clinics and Hospitals |
Rice Laboratory, together
with the five pathologists from Minnesota
Pathologists Chartered, provide reference testing services for clinical,
cytological and surgical pathology specimens.
Testing is available
24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our standard courier service visits more than
30 different facilities on weekdays, and also provides some limited Saturday
and Sunday service. For tests not performed at Rice Laboratory, specimens
may be referred by Rice to strategic partners.
Rice Laboratory's
Outreach program can also contract for services in pathology consulting,
technical consulting, or laboratory management services. Rice lab staff
are also available to assist with information on reimbursement issues,
coding questions, and regulatory inspections.
Rice Memorial Hospital Laboratory has been awarded an accreditation by the College of American Pathologists based on the results of a recent onsite inspection. >> story |

| Laboratory Tests Available to the General Public through Direct Lab Access |
Direct Lab
Access service is a quick, easy, and inexpensive way for you to receive lab tests.
It is a healthcare resource that is open to the general public.
If you do not have healthcare insurance, or if you have high insurance deductibles and co-pays, you may find Direct Lab Access to be an affordable way to get the information you need. |

Does my doctor need to order these tests for me?
A physician's order is not required, however, we urge you to share the results with your healthcare provider.
Will a copy of the results automatically be sent to my doctor?
In order to keep costs low, you will need to send copies of the results to your doctor.
Where do I go to get the tests?
Direct Lab Access in located on the first floor of Rice Memorial Hospital. You do not need to register in the lobby. Go directly to the lab.
When are you open?
The tests are available Monday through Friday, from 7:00 am until 7:00 pm.
Do I need to fast beforehand?
All tests that recommend or require fasting are noted on the Lab Test menu below.
How long will it take?
It takes just a few minutes for the test sample to be taken. Depending on the test, results may be available in about an hour. Some tests may take up to a few days to receive the results. All results will be sent directly to you at the address you provide. Any abnormal results will be noted by the pathologist.
Will you bill my insurance company?
Your insurance will not be billed. All tests must be paid for by cash or check at the time of the test.
Do I need to be 18?
Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
