rice courier schedule -- now online!
Laboratory Services
Rice Laboratory, together with the four pathologists from Minnesota Pathologists Chartered, provide reference testing services for clinical, cytological and surgical pathology specimens.
Testing is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our standard courier service visits over 30 different facilities on weekdays, and also provides some limited Saturday and Sunday service. For tests not performed at Rice Laboratory, specimens may be referred by Rice to strategic partners such as Mayo Medical Laboratories and MedTox.
Rice Laboratory's Outreach program can also contract for services in pathology consulting, technical consulting or laboratory management services. Rice lab staff are also available to assist with information on reimbursement issues, coding questions, and regulatory inspections.
LabTestsOnline.org is a public resource on clinical laboratory testing written by laboratory professionals. This site has been designed to help you better understand the many clinical laboratory tests that are part of routine care as well as diagnosis and treatment of a braod range of conditions and diseases.
Direct Lab Access
Now you can order your own lab tests -- without a physician's order! Our Direct Lab Access service is a quick, easy and inexpensive way for people to come into the lab without an appointment and receive laboratory testing from our from our menu of 20 DLA tests. Although this service is not meant to take the place of regular medical care, offers our customers a way to take more control over their own health care!

*You must fast 12
hours prior to a lipid profile or triglycerides test.
**Fasting 12 hours prior to both the chemistry and glucose profiles, will
yield the most informative results but is not absolutely necessary.
- A physician order is not required for these tests.
- The tests are available Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 7:00pm.
- You do not need to register in the lobby. Go directly to the lab.
- Anyone under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
- You must pay for all tests with either cash or check at the time of the test. Your insurance will not be billed.
- The results will be sent directly to you. Any abnormal test results will be noted by the pathologist
- You are encouraged to share your results with your health care provider. This is not meant as a substitute for regular medical care.
