American Cancer Society Navigator
If
you or someone you know has cancer
American Cancer Society Navigator
at Rice can help
Beginning July 14,
2005, American Cancer Society Navigator Kris Johnson will be available
Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to assist cancer patients
and their loved ones-right here at Rice.
This new partnership
between the American Cancer Society and Rice will provide a wonderful
opportunity for Johnson to be more accessible to patients. She previously
worked from the American Cancer Society office.
Navigators are professional
staff who offer free, timely, understandable information and support for
those who have received a cancer diagnosis, are undergoing treatment,
or are in recovery. They also provide access to a variety of support groups
and educational programs.
A Navigator can lend
support and answer questions, such as:
" What is the difference between the grade and stage of a tumor?
" What are treatment options for my type of cancer?
" How will I get back and forth from my appointments?
" Where do I go if I need a hospital bed or other equipment?
" What do I do if I lose my hair?
Individuals
with cancer can discuss any personal experience or situation with a Navigator,
who is trained to listen and help with the needs of an individual, and
create a tailor-made plan of action.
For more information
or to schedule an appointment, contact Johnson at 231-4520 or 800-239-7028.
