Physical Therapy

Physical Therapy at Rice provides service for all ages, assisting individuals disabled by disease or injury to reach and maintain their highest level of physical function. We serve and assist patients with orthopedic, neurologic and general medical needs.

Physical Therapists are on staff and available for evaluations, consultations and treatments. Each patient referred to Physical Therapy is evaluated and a treatment plan is set up specific to his or her individual needs. Our staff also attends multidisciplinary rounds and provides feedback to nursing and other disciplines, thereby integrating a true team approach to each of our patients' care.

Outpatient Joint Replacement Class
The preadmission teaching team consists of you, your family, a registered nurse, a physical and occupational therapist and a social worker. You will be asked questions about your routines and will have a chance to ask questions too. It is best if you wear comfortable, loose fitting clothes. This is so your hip or knee can be fully evaluated at rest and while you walk. A member of your family is encouraged to attend and become involved in your teaching program.

For more information on our Outpatient Joint Replacement Class, contact the Physical Therapy Department at (320) 231-4239.

Occupational Therapy

The Occupational Therapy Department provides assessment, treatment, and consultation for individuals experiencing a decline in functional independence due to illness or injury.

Occupational Therapy provides treatment for a variety of diagnoses including stroke, cardiac problems, joint replacements, dementia and others.

Along with direct treatment, the department can provide educational programs for wheelchair positioning, ergonomics, activities of daily living, cognitive functioning, lymphedema treatment and energy conservation.

Speech Therapy

Speech therapy services offered include assessment, treatment, and consultation for individuals with language, speech, voice, and cognitive disorders. The department also provides specialized evaluation of swallowing, including videofluoroscopy. A physician’s order is required for all direct services.
