Rice Institute for Counseling & Education

Rice Institute for Counseling and Eduction follows a medical model of care. That means we work with a patient's primary care physician to ensure greater continuity of care. Because we're part of the Rice health care network, patients have access to nursing care, occupational therapy, recreational therapy and more, depending on need.

Outpatient care

This program includes three basic components: education, counseling and clinical treatment. Within these components are the following treatment options:

• individual therapy for personal struggles or challenges
• family therapy for inter-family relationships and dynamics
• educational groups and seminars
• psychological testing for diagnosis and personalized treatment planning
• medical treatment including evaluation, psychotherapy and medication management

Outpatient services are located in the Lakeland Health Center, on 2nd Street, directly across from the Rice Hospital main campus.

Inpatient care

Our facility for inpatient care is highly confidential and offers flexibility as well as structure and stability. Each patient has a private room, but we always encourage interaction with others. Dining, recreation and other conveniences such as a kitchen and lounge are available on site.

Here, treatment may include one or more of the following:

• creative experiences to help in self-discovery and skill development
• group learning for the development of communication and social skills
• educational programs on wellness and relationships
• group therapy on interpersonal issues
• individual therapy
• family involvement including counseling and support
• leisure and recreational therapy, both in our facility and away from the hospital setting
• medical treatment including comprehensive evaluation, medications and psychiatric psychotherapy
• discharge planning including referral to other facilities or to return home

Our inpatient facility is located on the 3rd floor of Rice Hospital.
