Volunteer Program

Community volunteers play an important role in providing that extra touch to the Rice experience, helping patients, visitors, and staff members.

People volunteer throughout different stages of their lives, and they volunteer for a variety of reasons. One thing ties them all together, though - their commitment to enhancing and enriching the lives of others.

I began volunteering at Rice when my son was deployed to Iraq and I needed to focus on other people instead of myself.

I love it here and I always look forward to coming - its a place where you always feel appreciated. I volunteer in the Surgical Lounge and the Gift Shop about four or five times per month.

Volunteering is such a simple thing to do and Rice has a great atmosphere.

I am a cancer survivor and want to help others in any small way that I can. When you're faced with a severe illness, you need somebody to talk to, but I receive far more from patients than I could every possibly give.

Rice Hospice staff are the most caring and compassionate individuals of any team that I've ever been involved with - they give you the knowledge and support you need to volunteer.

I began volunteering because I knew that Sugar would be a good therapy dog in the Pet Therapy Program with Rice Hospice. She gets along with everybody.

I think everyone should take the Rice Hospice Training Program because it's an excellent seminar you can relate to life. Even if Sugar stopped volunteering, I would never give it up.

I started volunteering before I started having children. People say they don't have time, but even with kids and working full-time, I'm starting my 22nd year as a volunteer at Rice.

I like to work in the Gift Shop, but if it isn't for you, you'll find other places you will like. I work the first Friday of every month.

I think more people should volunteer. Its giving but it's also receiving - what a blessing it is for me to volunteer. I've met a lot of fun, neat people and even a lifetime friend.

We began volunteering when we retired because we wanted to give back to the community after being employed in the public sector.

We've always liked Rice Hospital so we went through the volunteer training program together and have been volunteering here since 2002.

It's fun to meet the different people - both visitors and other volunteers. We enjoy being here and we can choose the schedule we want.
