Willmar, Minn. – After a year of construction, Willmar’s new Carris Health Surgery Center is now complete and will soon be open to patients. The second-generation surgery center was built to support the increasing demand for affordable, quality same-day surgical care throughout the region.
The state-of-the-art facility occupies 29,370-square feet of space to accommodate higher patient volumes and allow for future growth of the Carris Health surgical team. “There’s a growing need in our community for more efficient and accessible same-day surgical care. This larger facility is a direct response to that need, allowing us to have more specialties, surgeons, and staff as we continue growing into the future,” says Erika Gjerde, Carris Health Surgery Center Manager.
With a focus on the patient experience, the new Carris Health Surgery Center features expanded lobby space, additional pre-op rooms, and a one-way patient path through each stage of the surgical process. The facility also promotes increased patient privacy with the addition of a personal check-in area and individual recovery bays designed specifically for children and patients needing additional assistance during recovery.
The new multispecialty surgical facility is designed to enhance the surgical experience for both patients and the surgical staff. In addition to larger operating rooms, the facility features advanced equipment including three large operating room imaging monitors to give surgeons more extensive views during a procedure. The new Carris Health Surgery Center also has an automated medication management system to increase narcotics safety and reduce staff errors.
“Ambulatory surgery continues to advance, and our previous facility was unable to keep up with the growing needs of our team,” says Dr. Jon Mellema, Otolaryngologist and Medical Director, Carrris Health Surgery Center – Willmar. “Our new facility will allow us to utilize industry leading technology and give our surgeons the opportunity to provide the highest quality care in a warm, personalized setting for patients whose surgical needs do not require an overnight stay.”
The new Carris Health Surgery Center is equipped for a wide variety of surgical specialties including Dermatology, Gastroenterology, General Surgery, Gynecology, Pain Management, Plastic Surgery, Podiatry, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Otolaryngology, and Urology.
A grand opening celebration is set for Thursday, May 17th from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the new facility, which is located southwest of ACMC Health’s main clinic on the corner of Willmar Avenue and First Street in Willmar.
