Rice Memorial Hospital owns Willmar Ambulance Service, which provides multiple levels of care and transportation, including Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support.
If you have an emergency or need an ambulance, please call 9-1-1. Calling 9-1-1 is almost always the fastest way to get lifesaving treatment.
Willmar Ambulance Service provides many levels of care ranging from Basic Life Support to Advanced Life Support and Critical Care.
We are staffed full-time, 24 hours, seven days a week. We have five ambulances and two sprint vehicles. On average, Willmar Ambulance Service responds to approximately 3200 calls per year.
There are three crews on duty each day, seven days per week. There are seven full-time emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and eight full-time paramedics. There are also 20 casual (on-call) EMTs and paramedics.
All Willmar Ambulance staff are trained in IV therapy. EMTs are trained to assist paramedics with medication administration.
We’ve adopted a response time standard that requires that our first ambulance be en route within 90 seconds after being dispatched. This standard has to be achieved in 90 seconds 90% of the time. We currently average 62 seconds for this standard. We also require that we arrive on scene after dispatch within ten minutes 90% of the time. Willmar currently averages eight minutes.
We are located at the corner of Becker Ave. SW and 2nd St. SW, across the street from the emergency entrance to Rice Memorial Hospital.
Willmar Ambulance paramedics are trained to take Advanced Life Support (ALS), Basic Life Support (BLS), and Critical Care transports. Ambulance crews are enroute within 90 seconds of being paged for a transfer. Willmar Ambulance takes patient transfers from Rice Hospital, local clinics, and Level 4 Trauma hospitals within the region to Level 1 or Level 2 Trauma hospitals in Minnesota. KNOX-BOX Rapid Entry System
The KNOX-BOX Rapid Entry System is a secure, rapid entry program specifically developed for fire departments and ambulance services. It provides non-destructive emergency access to a commercial and residential property.
A KNOX-BOX is a small box that contains keys for the building and a key to access the apartment. With one master key, you can gain access to a commercial and residential property. KNOX-BOXes are used by Willmar Ambulance to gain access to buildings and apartments when no one is available to open the door.
